My journey into the world of historical clothing began over 20 years ago from a gift my mother gave me, a 1907 Now Home treadle sewing machine. This unique gift ignited a passion that has since blossomed into a remarkable career. Today, I own a various collection of these antique machines and I use them to create period-authentic clothing, ensuring a historically accurate experience to all who encounter my work.
My dedication to historical accuracy has earned widespread acclaim. The living history programs I have developed, are renowned for their authenticity and educational value, and have been featured at schools, National Parks, State Parks, museums, historical societies, galleries and private events. These programs cover a wide range of activities, including Victorian dressing programs, Dutch oven cooking, reenactments of historical events, and children’s games. With an extensive professional background as a living historian, I have received numerous accolades for my engaging programs. I have undergone comprehensive training in various areas to perfect my role.
The enthusiasm for history I have transcended to my children, who were actively involved in the programs I offer when they were young. Together, we were featured in two historical documentaries filmed in St. Joseph Mo. In both documentaries, I created period-accurate clothing, contributing to the films’ authenticity. My work has also been showcased on several media platforms, including Pure Nebraska and KQ2 TV.
Through these appearances, I emphasize the importance of living history and its relevance to contemporary life. My goal is to bring history to life in a vibrant and engaging manner, sparking curiosity and appreciation for historical knowledge.
Living history programs provide a unique opportunity for participants to immerse themselves in historical experiences and gain a deeper understanding of the past. Participating in living history programs allows individuals to engage with history in a hands-on and interactive way. This experiential learning approach helps to foster a deeper connection and appreciation for the past, as participants can see, hear, and even touch the artifacts and settings of the past. By actively participating in historical reenactments and role-playing activities, individuals can develop a more comprehensive understanding of different perspectives, social dynamics, and events that shaped our world. By interacting with costumed interpreters and engaging in hands-on activities, individuals can learn about the customs, traditions, and social dynamics of the Victorian era memorably and interactively.
I have had the opportunity to share my delightful living history programs in states such as Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. Whether your gathering is close by or a tad distant, Indian Creek Historical Fashions is excitedly anticipating the chance to travel to your location.
